An der Universität Siegen findet am 9. und 10. September 2015 ein internationales Symposium "Economics Reconsidered: Towards New Economic Thinking" statt. Die Veranstalter wollen kritische Positionen zum gegenwärtigen Zustand der Volkswirtschaftslehre stärken und ein Forschungsprogramm für ein Institut "Ökonomie und Gesellschaft" an der Universität Siegen entwickeln. Es soll Volkswirtschaftslehre und (andere) Sozialwissenschaften in einen Dialog bringen.
Das Programm umfasst Präsentationen u. a. von Thomas Ferguson (Boston), Till van Treeck (Duisburg-Essen), Achim Truger (Berlin), Matthias Thiemann (Frankfurt/M.), John B. Davis (Milwaukee/Amsterdam), Nils Goldschmidt (Siegen), Uwe Schneidewind (Wuppertal).
Der thematische Fokus der Forschung des zukünftigen Instituts liegt auf ökonomischer, sozialer und ökologischer Nachhaltigkeit. Interdisziplinarität, Pluralismus und Problemorientierung stehen für den Kern des Forschungsparadigmas.
In der Ankündigung heißt es:
"The economic mainstream is characterized by theoretically, research-methodologically, and normatively rather narrow assumptions and conventions. This seems to be specifically true for the German discourse. The recent macro-economic crises and the dissatisfying modes of explanation underline this fact. Since the academic discourse influences public opinion and political decision making, we need to open up the debate. Therefore, the University of Siegen, in association with a network of international partners, is hosting a symposium to question the current state of economic thinking. Our goal is to implement a more pluralistic, empirical and critical approach towards economics, relinking economics and social sciences at the University of Siegen."
